For many Muslim shoppers, the halal conversation begins and ends at the method of slaughter. We believe it should begin much earlier — at the life the animal actually lived. This is the heart of what Tayyib means to us.
The question we ask. Can meat be truly halal, tayyib and wholesome if the animal endured a miserable life? The minutes of slaughter matter enormously — but so do the months and years before. A short, properly performed slaughter cannot, in our view, redeem a life of confinement and distress. So we source animals that were able to do what they were created to do: be free and roam.
What that looks like in practice.
- Our cattle are traditionally reared in Ireland with acres of pasture and an exclusively grass‑fed diet — and you can taste that life in the beef our customers so often call supremely juicy and succulent.
- Our lamb is free‑range across open pastures in Ireland and England, grass‑fed, and grown without growth‑promoting hormones — as nature intended.
- Our poultry is reared in spacious barns and nurtured on a naturally high‑protein diet appropriate to omnivorous birds; our pasture‑raised flocks are grown more slowly for richer flavour and firmer meat, and our certified‑organic free‑range chickens come from Wales.
Welfare and faith, together. Islam holds gentleness toward animals as a matter of ihsan — excellence and mercy. Choosing well‑reared animals isn't a lifestyle preference layered on top of halal; for us it's part of taking the amanah of halal seriously. (What Tayyib means.)
Transparency is part of welfare. We tell you where each animal was raised and how, because you deserve to make an informed choice. If you'd like more detail on a specific product's rearing, just ask — we're glad to trace it. (Where our meat comes from.)
